Hygienesiegel für Pflegeeinrichtungen 2026-2029
This page contains all documents created for care facilities as part of the hygiene seal program. These documents can also be used without participating in the seal program. A list of certified facilities is available on the corresponding subpage.
Digital information sessions will be held in early February 2026, which you can join without prior registration. Attending just one session is sufficient. During the session, you will receive a concise overview of all the important information regarding the content and changes to the new hygiene seal and can ask questions directly. If you have not received an email about the information session, please contact Enable JavaScript to view protected content. .
The quality seal covers a total of four years:
- BASIC MODULE
This module is reviewed annually and covers the areas of "basic hygiene" and "networking". - MODULES 1-4
Each year, a module theme is the focus of the quality seal. The module theme for 2026 is: Outbreak and hygiene management.

Participation in the hygiene seal program and other offerings of the MRE network is highly recommended, especially during a pandemic, as a fundamental measure for infection control. Hygiene measures implemented to prevent multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) and the rational use of antibiotics are now considered particularly important! This is because increased respiratory infections in the population can lead to higher antibiotic consumption and, consequently, increased resistance pressure on bacteria.
The annual submission of prevalence surveys in accordance with Quality Objective 3 of the Hygiene Seal remains a welcome, optional contribution to the network's work. The mre-network includes all received prevalence survey data in its anonymized database. However, outside of the qualification years (2014 and 2018), the mre-network has not yet conducted a review of the annual prevalence measurements. Survey forms are available at: QZ_3 Prevalence Survey and Urinary Catheter Checklists.
The MRE network Regio Rhein-Ahr has offered free participation to all care facilities in its network area since the first hygiene seal for care facilities (2015-2018). Materials and information events can also be used without participating in the seal program. Information for residents and their families can be found in the download section and in the section on hygiene for those affected/at home .
The hygiene seal encompasses key aspects of basic hygiene, pathogen-specific measures for the prevention and control of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), and organizational hygiene tasks in care facilities. By participating in the hygiene seal program, you promote exchange and training within the nine districts and independent cities, as well as collaboration with the MDRO network and the nine public health departments, fully in line with the guiding principle "Together against antibiotic-resistant germs and other infectious agents."
Qualification for certification is offered every four years in cooperation with the responsible public health department, most recently in 2019 (see Certified Facilities ). An announcement regarding the next participation and modalities is planned for 2021. The documents are available for download or upon request from Enable JavaScript to view protected content. .

Preparations for the next certification in 2024 have already begun, allowing us to build upon the success of the 2019 certification. Because we aim to streamline, simplify, and digitize the process, some preparation is necessary and will take time. We will contact interested institutions through the relevant public health departments and invite them to an introductory meeting. As the exact date is currently uncertain, we ask for your patience. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Your team at the mre-network
